AMU was founded in 1992 with the goal of combining two distinct learning environments - online and the traditional bricks and mortar. To meet that challenge AMU would have to integrate their high tech curriculum into a Learning Management System – this system is now branded and recognized as LECTUREPAD. LECTUREPAD provides powerful capabilities that enable the Institutes to improve student outcomes and enhance teaching and learning. AMU’s networking and educational opportunities with other Medical Schools and Universities combined with a topnotch system LECTUREPAD has become mission-critical at our fraternity facilities around the world connecting students and staff to paramount educational content and share knowledge of successful systems and strategies.
The didactic online (approximately the first 18 months) portion of the curriculum is identical to the comprehensive classroom learning that students receive at major universities. The online portion is complemented by hands-on clinical work at an array of clinical hospitals and affiliation. Students enrolled in the online didactic portion will be required to make at least 4 short-term (4-7 days) trips to the college or university they are assigned to for their course of study. However the online didactic portion of this program is completely optional, students who would opt to attend in the traditional bricks and mortar facility will be directly assigned to an affiliate college or university. Please note that a student wishing to switch from one college to the next must follow the proper transfer procedures as dictated by the location they are attending and AMU.

In order to be an affiliate of AMU, colleges and universities must abide by AMU's excellent standards: Accreditation through World Health Organization (WHO); utilize AMU's U.S. Medical based curriculum; and have all faculty approved or assigned by AMU. The American Medical University (AMU) is able to offers this unique opportunity for a select group of students in which a student is assigned to an AMU affiliate Medical School or AMU's newest medical campus, opening March, 2008.
